5. Pokemon Bloody Platinum (2009)

For starters, items play a bigger part in this game, namely due to the fact that evolution items act like evolution stones, making evolving your team much easier.
And it’s much easier to get Spiritomb in this version too. Rather than searching high and low, just use the Odd Key Stone and make sure you’ve got a Pokeball at the ready!
With a second Master Ball to obtain hard-to-catch legendaries without having to use cheats and the Super Rod arriving in your itinerary right after you beat the 8th gym leader, you’re sure to have an easier time of things while moving through Sinnoh.
That might be good or bad depending on how tough you like your games. Still, if you’re new to ROM hacks and fancy easing yourself in, then this is a good hack to go for!
2. Pokemon Platinum Redux
Pokemon Platinum Redux is up next, and if you’re looking for gameplay with some seriously unique features, then this is your lucky day.
We’re talking new moves and altered formes for you to encounter including regional transformations and brand new Pokemon types.
In other words, you’re going to need to think a lot more carefully when making your teams and do some proper stats research before going into battle.
Some ROM hacks (I’m thinking of the Kaizo hacks in particular) are so hard that you’ll want to throw whatever device you’re running your chosen emulator on against the nearest wall.
Redux, on the other hand, is much fairer and easier to play.
And because Platinum has such a good story, we like the fact that it’s not ‘hard as nails’, allowing players to just kick back and just enjoy the game.
Get all of the Pokemon up to Gen 4 too including Mew – what’s not to love about that!
1. Pokemon Renegade Platinum
We’ve ranked Pokemon Renegade Platinum as the best Pokemon Platinum ROM hack of all time due to its slightly more challenging nature while still maintaining the general feel of the original base game.
Pokemon Platinum gives battles a much better feel, and if we’re honest, these are the most exciting parts of the Pokemon games anyway!
Trainers are tougher to beat too, making you think a lot harder about your team.
The Elite Four use Pokemon randomly selected from four teams, and each of the trainers including the Champion uses the full 6 Pokemon.
And, there are some epic Pokemon changes to take note of too like the inclusion of the best Fairy type Pokemon into the mix. Get items from later Pokemon games that never featured in Pokemon Platinum and learn way more moves than the original game.
Oh, and weaker Pokemon have had a Chuck Norris-style workout to bring them in line with the stronger Pokemon. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!
